5-6 YEAR OLD DIVISION RULES & GUIDLINES:
Double Elimination format
- All teams are boys and girls, all boys, or all girls. Maximum of 15 and minimum of 12 players at all times on roster. (You may start the game with 11, but when your 12th player has not shown up to bat, game is forfeited. Sports commissioner will explain this rule.)
- Age determination date is April 28, 2011. Teams MUST have copies of ALL players’ birth certificates (or medical cards) at EVERY game. If proof of age cannot be presented, team can forfeit tournament.
- All players present and listed on the roster must be in the lineup and bat each game.
- A game will consist of five (5) innings or one (1) hour. No new inning will start after time limit has expired. A turn at bat will consist of three (3) outs or a maximum of six (6) runs scored per team per inning.
- A twelve (12) run mercy rule will be in effect after three (3) innings.
- Line-ups must be turned in to scorekeeper at least ten (10) minutes prior to game time.
- Batters may not swing at the ball until the plate umpire calls play ball. Umpire shall do this when all players on the field are in position. Pitcher must have one foot on rubber and catcher must be outside of batting circle.
- Batters will not be allowed to bunt, swing easy, or chop at the ball. If the ball does not travel outside of the batting circle, a strike will be called. If the batter attempts to bunt, swing easy, or chop, a strike will be called. If the batter strikes the tee instead of the ball, a strike will be called. If any of these situations occur with two (2) strikes, the batter will be called out.
- A foul ball on the third strike will be called an out.
- No stealing, leading off, or leaving base early; first offense will draw a team warning. After one (1) team warning, runners will be called out.
- Batters will be called out if they carry, throw or sling the bat outside of the batting circle no matter where the batted ball travels.
- Runners may not advance on an overthrow by an infielder at any time. Runners may advance at their own risk on an overthrow by an outfielder until the ball is in the possession of an infielder. Once the ball is in the possession of an infielder, all runners must stop.
- If a runner is past a visual line, then the runner may advance forward to the next base.
- If runners are on base and a line drive is hit in the infield, the runners on base can be doubled off.
- Pitchers, catchers, batters and base runners must wear batting helmets on the field at all times. Bats may be no longer than 29". A regulation baseball will be used.
- All players, coaches and parents must conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner at all times during the tournament. Failure to do so will result in the individual’s suspension for the remainder of the tournament.
- Each team will be allowed to have one manager and two coaches in the dugout and on the field. While on offense, base coaches must remain in their respective area during a live ball. Coaches may not touch or physically move a player on offense or defense. Two coaches will be allowed in the outfield while on defense.
- Only managers, coaches, players, and scorekeepers will be allowed in the dugout area.
- Infield positions shall consist of pitcher, catcher, 1st baseman, 2nd baseman, 3rd baseman, and shortstop. All other defensive players will be placed in the outfield and must remain there until the ball is struck.
- Coaches are limited to six (6) player/team meetings per game. This is for both offense and defense (ex. 3 meetings on offense and 3 on defense.)
- Home team will be determined by a coin toss at the beginning of each game.
