The BGSG will use the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) rulebook for all outdoor competitions.

RULE CHANGES FOR 2011:
1. 15.8 It is a fault to double contact the reception of a serve. (Pg 14)
2. 15.9 If during reception of a serve a player attempts to receive serve in an open-handed setting motion, it is a fault and the serving team wins the point. (Pg 14)
3. 16.2 ATTACK-HIT FAULTS. It is a fault when a player completes an attack hit above the plane of the net on the opponents’ service. (Pg. 14)

The emphasis for these rules is that serve receive must be done with a forearm pass or “bump” and not with the open hands. We understand this new ruling will require player adjustments and time to reverse current habits. In an effort to be as fair as possible, our head referees will explain the new ruling on game day and our court referees will remind each team Captain of the skill expected before play begins. Attached please find a copy of the CBVA Rulebook or visit the CBVA Web site at: www.cbva.com.
